19805 W. Capitol Dr
Friday January 22nd, 2010 6:30-9:00 Opening Reception

In an effort to foster deeper relationships within the arts community between artists the audiences for their work MARN has created the Salon Series.

Each MARNSalon features work from MARN members (different members at each event). We then invite local curators to meet with the artists during a private reception in order to help the artist forge relationships with museum curators, gallery owners, and art dealers. Some of the curators participating in the program include Brady Roberts (MAM), Greame Reid (Museum of Wisconsin Art), Elaine Erickson (Gallery Owner), and many others.

On Friday night we open the show to the public, where they can meet the artists in the show.

Finally, to deepen connections within the art community we invite fellow artists to come and share their thoughts with our artists during the peer critique on Saturday.

We are proud to have partnered with The Hotel for the Arts and The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center in order to present this series.

Writing an Artist's Statement

Saturday February 20th, 2010
10am-noon
In Tandem Theatre
628 N. 10th Street Milwaukee

You've completed your most recent body of work. You need to talk about where that work came from. An artist's statement can mean the difference between someone giving your work the time to review it or just passing it by (and this is true for all types of artists; filmmakers to musicians, not just visual artists).

Josie Osborne will help you write an effective and efficient artist's statement. If you already have an Artist's Statement you're encouraged to bring it along.

Make sure to stick around for the afternoon's companion class Bio & Elevator Speech.

$20/ $15 for MARN members

Writing Your Bio & Elevator Speech

Saturday February 20th, 2010
1pm-3pm
In Tandem Theatre
628 N. 10th Street Milwaukee

So often we're faced with providing a bio for a program book or article and none of us like to toot our own horn (but we've got to provide one anyway).

Josie Osborne will go through what should and should not be included in your bio. Plus how do you answer that age old question..."So what do you do?" ... in 30 seconds or less? With the "Elevator Speech" portion of this workshop you'll take your bio and convert it into an interesting synopsis that you can deliver in the time you'd spend with someone in an elevator.

If you already have a bio you're encouraged to bring it along.

$20/ $15 for MARN members

This year MARNmentors is proud to present this exhibition in partnership with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

In addition to the always-spectacular visual art that has historically come out of this program MARN has added filmmakers, literary artists, and composers to the mix this year.

MARNmentors is made possible through grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Milwaukee Arts Board, and the generous support of MARN's artist and patron members.
